Q: Why doesn't this clay mask dry down hard and crack like others?
A: Traditional clay masks are simple water-and-powder suspensions. As the water evaporates, the clay shrinks and cracks, which physically micro-tears the skin and rapidly accelerates trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). We formulated this mask as a high-solids emulsion. By coating the Kaolin and Bentonite particles in a high ratio of Glycerin, Propanediol, and lipid-rich Shea Butter, the mask remains pliable and occlusive, preventing moisture evaporation while still allowing the clays to absorb excess sebum.
Q: Why use Zinc Oxide in a wash-off detox mask?
A: Zinc Oxide is a multifunctional powerhouse. In this formulation, it acts as a soothing, mild astringent that calms erythema (redness) often associated with congested pores. Structurally, Zinc Oxide acts as a natural buffer, keeping the formulation at a skin-compatible, neutral-to-slightly-alkaline pH (6.5–7.5). This specific pH range is critical for maintaining the stability of the emulsion and preventing the clays from agglomerating.
Q: I notice Niacinamide in the formula, but no AHAs or BHAs. Why is that?
A: Formulating with Zinc Oxide and Bentonite requires strict pH management. Direct acids like Lactic Acid (AHA) or Salicylic Acid (BHA) require a low pH (typically 3.0–4.0) to remain bioavailable. At that acidic pH, Zinc Oxide dissolves, the emulsion breaks, and the clay becomes gritty. Niacinamide, however, is highly stable at our target pH of 6.5–7.5. It provides excellent sebum regulation, pore refinement, and barrier support without destabilizing the mineral matrix.
Q: If it contains so much Shea Butter and Almond Oil, won't it clog my pores?
A: No. The lipid phase is carefully balanced with Kaolin and Bentonite, which have immense oil-absorbing capacities. Furthermore, the inclusion of Coco-Glucoside—a gentle, non-ionic surfactant—ensures that the entire lipid-mineral matrix is easily lifted from the pores the moment it comes into contact with warm water, rinsing away completely clean.
1. Cleanse (Prepare the Canvas): Begin by thoroughly cleansing your skin to remove surface debris and makeup. We recommend using a gentle, non-stripping cleanser. Rinse well with tepid water and then gently pat your skin completely dry with a soft, clean towel. Ensuring your skin is fully dry allows the absorbing clays to bind optimally to excess sebum in the pores.
2. Apply the Mineral Ointment (The Detoxification Step): Using clean fingertips or a dedicated mask brush, dispense a generous, even layer of the Hydrating Charcoal-Mineral Ointment Mask over your face and neck. Avoid the immediate orbital eye area and lips. Smooth the paste evenly over the skin; you will notice it glides on with a rich, creamy slip.
3. Allow to Set (The Active Phase): Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes. A Note on Texture: Unlike traditional clay masks that evaporate rapidly, shrink, and crack (which physically micro-tears the skin and accelerates trans-epidermal water loss), this formulation is engineered as a high-solids emulsion. It will remain soft, flexible, and comfortable throughout the treatment period.
4. Emulsify & Remove (The Smart Wash-Off): When the time is up, wet your hands with warm water and gently massage your face. You will feel the heavy mineral paste instantly transform into a lightweight, milky lotion. Continue to massage briefly to lift the clays from the pores, then rinse thoroughly with warm water until the skin feels entirely clean. The emulsion technology ensures it rinses completely, leaving no greasy residue behind.
5. Complete Your Ritual (Hydrate & Protect): Gently pat your skin dry. Follow immediately with your preferred hydrating serum and moisturizer to lock in the conditioning benefits of the mask. If using this mask during the daytime, always conclude your routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Use 1–2 times weekly, or as needed for a purifying boost.

Formulation Note: Because this product contains mineral oxides (Zinc Oxide), avoid layering highly concentrated, low-pH acids (like L-Ascorbic Acid or high-strength AHA liquid exfoliants) immediately before or after application. Doing so can temporarily alter the skin's pH and negatively affect the stability of the remaining minerals on the skin's surface.
